The Role Of Maintenance-Free AGM Batteries In Practice

2022-09-23

AGM batteries are designed for high demands as absorbent glass mat batteries because of their versatility and high performance. Structurally, they are similar to wet batteries. Their electrolytes are not free-floating, but rather bound in fiberglass separators. In addition, the hermetic seal ensures no moisture loss due to the recombination of oxygen and hydrogen inside. Its large contact area makes the battery leak-proof and also contributes to power output. To ensure maximum safety by protecting the battery from overpressure, the individual battery cells are equipped with a safety valve. In terms of battery life, AGM batteries are three times as durable as conventional starter batteries.

The advantages of maintenance-free batteries are also reduced overheating and overcharge variations, less gasification, and economical benefits.

Conventional batteries have liquid inside that, if overcharged, can start to boil and melt the battery and cause an accident. Maintenance-free batteries use lead and calcium terminals, which reduce the chance of overcharging. The heat generated is released through the small vents provided, and some batteries also utilize technologies such as rapid cooling separators to regulate the temperature.

The calcium in the battery reduces the release of hydrogen, making it safe for use in cars and homes. Sealed maintenance-free batteries are manufactured keeping in mind the needs of ordinary people. These batteries help reduce maintenance costs, last longer and don't require you to add water.
