    Generally speaking, lead-acid batteries with colloidal electrolytes are usually called colloidal batteries. The easiest way is to add a gelling agent to sulfuric acid to make the sulfuric acid electrolyte into a colloidal state. The difference between colloidal batteries and ordinary lead-acid batteries is from the initial understanding of electrolyte gelation to the electrochemical properties of the basic structure of the electrolyte, as well as the application and promotion of grids and active materials. For example, non-solidified water colloids belong to colloidal batteries from the perspective of electrochemical classification structure and characteristics; for example, polymer materials attached to the grid, commonly known as ceramic grids, can also be regarded as the application characteristics of colloidal batteries.

    The basic working principle of the gel battery is the same as that of the ordinary lead-acid battery, but the silica gel in the battery is a three-dimensional porous network structure composed of SiQ particles as the skeleton. After turning into a gel, the skeleton further shrinks, causing cracks in the gel to penetrate between the positive and negative plates, providing a channel for the oxygen precipitated from the positive electrode to reach the negative electrode. It is not difficult to see that the sealing working principle of gel battery and AGM battery is the same, the difference lies in the way of "fixing" the electrolyte and the way of supplying oxygen to the negative channel.

    For gel batteries, the key to how to improve the service life lies in these three points. One is to charge in time after discharge, do not wait for the battery to discharge before recharging. Use a good quality charger, which has a great impact on battery life. Second, the battery should be stored with sufficient power, and the storage place should be cool and dry, away from heat sources and away from direct sunlight. If it is stored for more than one month, it should be recharged before use, and it should be deeply charged and discharged once stored for more than three months. Finally, when the weather is hot, pay attention to the battery temperature not to be too high, do not charge the battery, if it is too hot to touch, you can stop and recharge. In winter, the temperature is low, and the battery is easy to be insufficiently charged, so the charging time can be appropriately extended.
